Rat (Rattus genus) is a mammal who has 25cm long body with 20cm tail.  They can live up to 3 years long, they’re extremely adaptable and can thrive in most habitats providing there is adequate food and water supply.

Facts about rats…

  1.  Rats are brainy. They won’t forget a navigation route once they learn it.
  2.  Rats are thoughtful. They take care of sick rats in their group.
  3.  Rats doesn’t want to be alone. They become stressed and lonely when they don’t have companion.
  4.  Rats’ tails help them to balance, communicate and regulate their body temperature.
  5. Rats make happy sound when they play. They chatter or grind their teeth when happy.
  6. A rat can go longer than a camel without drinking water.

These rodents can still put harm to people’s health as they may carry diseases which could be deadly or fatal. Some of the diseases are Leptospirosis, Salmonellosis, Rat-Bite Fever, and Plague.
How diseases spreads?

a.      Breathing in dust that is contaminated with rodent urine or droppings

b.      Direct contact with rodents or their urine and droppings

c.       Eating food that is contaminated with rodent urine or droppings

d.      Bite wounds, although this does not happen frequently

e.      The disease may spread through direct contact from person to person
