A library in downtown Bakersfield closed this week while being treated for bed bugs. County representatives say they found the blood sucking bugs in several seating areas which prompted them to close the library.

“We see more and more bed bugs nationwide in hotels, in some apartment complexes,” says Kern County Public Health Director Matt Constantine. “We’ve seen some national stories of bed bugs in homeless centers. And we’ve seen similar levels of activity here in Kern County.” Bed bugs have been making a resurgence in the last few years in the United States and Europe.
